Pan American Starts Production at Huaron Mine
Vancouver, British Columbia...Pan American Silver Corp. (NASDAQ: PAAS; TSE: PAA) is pleased to announce the initiation of mill production from the Huaron silver-zinc mine in the Cerro de Pasco district of Central Peru. Pan American acquired its interest in the Huaron mine in March 2000, completed financing in August and fast-tracked the construction to begin operations 13 months after acquisition. Full-scale production of 50,000 tonnes per month should be achieved by mid-year resulting in annual output of 4.3 million ounces of silver and 18,000 tonnes of zinc metal to concentrates.
Pan American is a mining company focused exclusively on silver. The Company operates the Quiruvilca silver-zinc mine in Peru, where silver output totalled 3.6 million ounces in 2000. Pan American also operates the La Colorada silver mine in Mexico and conducts active exploration programs in Mexico, Peru and Bolivia.
