Polymetallic Silver Mine

La Colorada is Pan American’s largest silver producing mine. An expansion of the mine was completed in 2017, encompassing a new 618-metre deep mine shaft, a new sulphide processing plant, further development of the underground mine, and a new 115 kilovolt power line.

Mining & Processing

Underground 1,800 TPD

The La Colorada operation produces both oxide and sulphide ore, which is processed through separate plants. The total nominal plant capacity is 1,800 tonnes per day with the current life of mine plan projecting the processing of 1,400 tonnes per day of sulphide ore and 400 tonnes per day of oxide ore. The oxide plant comprises a conventional cyanide leach circuit consisting of crushing, grinding, leaching, Merrill Crowe zinc precipitation, and on-site refining to produce precious metal doré. The sulphide plant has a conventional flotation circuit comprised of crushing, grinding and selective lead and zinc froth flotation to recover precious and base metals into separate lead and zinc concentrates.

Geology & Mineralization

100.8 Moz Ag

La Colorada is a typical epithermal silver-gold deposit, with a transition at depth to a more base metal predominant system. There are three separate active mining areas on the property, including the Candelaria, Estrella, and Recompensa areas. Four dominant types of mineralization are present, including breccia pipes, vein-hosted mineralization, replacement mantos within limestone, and deeper seated transitional mineralization.
